With the recent acceleration of Google updates, it is important to keep your website pages up to date all the time. Most people get confused on where to start with the content audit. There are three basic types of audits you should be doing regularly:
Content audit – to ensure you have the best content with relevance and user intent available to the search engine.
Technical audit – to ensure the structure of the website is up to the mark with the latest search engine guidelines.
Link audit – to ensure the backlinks you’re acquiring are of top quality.
In this article, we will discuss the first type of audit, content audit. I chose this audit first for multiple reasons:
- Content audit is the most frequently performed audit throughout a website’s life cycle, due to ever-changing search engine algorithms.
- Content audits offer the greatest value in the long run, as we optimize already ranking pages.
- Content audits tend to achieve results faster than any other type of audit. Users may see results as soon as 5 days after the optimization of the content.
I will be going through the exact process that I use for my own websites and for my clients.
Although you can use advanced tools such as Ahrefs, SEMRush and Moz for content audit, I prefer Google Search Console and Google Analytics, as these tools provide the most accurate state of your site’s organic status.
Let’s start with Google Search Console, and then we will also take some bits and pieces from other tools.
